Primary Extragonadal Retroperitoneal Pure Yolk Sac Tumor

چکیده
Primary germ cell tumors of extragonadal origin are rare and exact incidence of this type cancer is unknown. They have been estimated to represent 3-5% of all adult germ cell malignancies (1). The origin of primary extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGGCT) is still a matter of debate. According to widely accepted theory, during embryogenesis, germ cells are misplaced anywhere at the midline. The mechanism of this misplacement is poorly understood, but malignant transformation of these cells leads to EGGCT at these regions (2-3). The most common sites of origin are, in decreasing order of frequency, the mediastineum, retroperitoneum, sacrococcygeal region and pineal gland, although many unusual sources have been reported (4). We report a case of primary extragonadal retroperitoneal pure Yolk sac tumor (YST) which could not be totally removed during operation and clinical remission was obtained after 4 courses of BEP chemotherapy. Extragonadal retroperitoneal germ cell tumor: primary versus metastases?
OBJECTIVE Primary extragonadal germ cell tumors are rare and their histogenetic origin is not clear. We describe two cases presenting as primary retroperitoneal germ cell tumors without clinical evidence of testicular tumor. METHODS A 21 and 18 years-old patients presented retroperitoneal choriocarcinoma and yolk sac tumor, respectively. In both cases, testicular palpation was not suspicious ...
متن کاملA ruptured retroperitoneal germ cell tumor with invasion into the duodenum: a case report.
We report a rare case of a retroperitoneal germ cell tumor in a 31 years old male who presented with an acute abdomen. He gave a six-months history of back pain and significant weight loss. Clinical examination and ultrasound of the testes didn't show any primary focus. Intraoperative findings showed a retrolperitoneal midline mass that has ruptured into the peritoneal cavity and has invaded in...

Yolk sac tumor is a rare germ cell neoplasm occurring mainly in the gonads. Extragonadal yolk sac tumor is a very rare malignancy; its main distribution is along the midline of the body at three principal sites: mediastinum, central nervous system and retroperitoneum. Most yolk sac tumors are diagnosed between seven months and three years of age. We report a case of primary yolk sac tumor in a ...

Malignant extragonadal germ cell tumors can arise anywhere along the gonadal ridge. Locations may include the retroperitoneal, mediastinum, presacral region, and pineal gland [1]. An Extragonadal Germ Cell Tumor (EGCT) is by definition a germ cell neoplasm displaying one of the histologies associated with gonadal origin, but located outside of the gonads [2]. EGCT arise from primordial germ cel...
متن کاملPrimary yolk sac tumor of the retroperitoneal region
Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are a group of tumors showing variations in clinical presentation and histopatho-logical and biological characteristics [1, 2]. The GCTs are neoplasms that develop from primordial germ cells of the human embryo, which are normally destined to produce sperm or ova. Primordial germ cells appear to originate in the yolk sac endoderm and migrate around the hind-gut to the ge...
